Qu'est-ce qu'on a fait au Bon Dieu?

Source: www.imdb.com
I somehow have the feeling that I have seen quite a lot of French films in the sneak lately, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. So although Qu'est-ce qu'on a fait au Bon Dieu? wasn't a movie that came up with any revolutionary new ideas it was very entertaining.

Claude and his wife are the proud conservative parents of four daughters. Their hopes are that their daughters marry acceptable catholic Frenchmen. This info and the fact that this is a comedy movie should be sufficient information that things do not exactly go as planned...

Although the plot is not the most original one in movie history the film is very well made with some very good performances, and I'm sure that most people will have a good time in the cinema.

The Signal

Truth to be told, I can't really say if The Signal is a good or bad movie because I was quite undecided about whether I liked it myself or not.

Three friends pick up a strange signal so they try to find it and also the person who sent it. Well, things get a tiny little bit weird after that, so I just suggest that you check the movie out for yourselves if your into Sci-Fi and thrillers because it's really not that bad.

The things that really bugged me about this movie were first of all that in the first 15-20 minutes I had absolutely no idea what the movie was about. It starts quite slowly and I had no idea whatsoever where it was going. However, after that it became more obvious. In fact, it became so obvious that we could already figure out what would happen in the end...if you have seen more of this type of movies it shouldn't be too difficult to put the clues together. Another point were the frequent flashbacks in the movie which are not a bad idea in themselves, but there were too many of them and they also kept showing the same ones. And on top of that, I had no idea what they were supposed to tell me.

All in all, the movie wasn't too bad and if you're into this genre it should be well worth watching.

The Young and Prodigious T.S. Spivet

Source: www.imdb.com
On June 23 The Young and Prodigious T.S. Spivet (Die Karte meiner Träume) was once again a reminder for me why I like watching sneaks so much. It's a movie that I probably wouldn't have seen after reading about it, but I actutally enjoyed it very much.

T.S. Spivet is a 10 year old boy who enjoys nothing more than science. After sending in his idea for a perpetuum mobile ("Perpetual motion is motion that continues indefinitely without any external source of energy" - thanks to Wikipedia!) he is invited to Washington by the Smithsonian in order to receive the renown Baird Award. However, this is a journey he has to make on his own because his family with whom he is living on a farm in Montana just don't seem to understand his fascination with science.

Admittedly, the movie has some weird moments in my opinion. I think I sighed many times over T.S. Spivet's sudden outbursts of truly nerdy scientific facts which always seemed to happen at the most inconvenient times possible. There are also some scenes which seem very confusing and which need some seconds for you to understand, but I don't want to spoil too much at this point, you can see for yourselves if you watch the movie.

Apart from these little things The Young and Prodigious T.S. Spivet is a very enjoyable movie with a very intelligent plot, very good acting and a great soundtrack which was difficult for me to get out of my head.
