Brick Mansions

Unfortunately, I didn't post a movie review last week so I have some catching up to do.

On May 26 the sneak audience including me saw the movie Brick Mansions. The most memorable thing about the movie is certainly that it is Paul Walker's last completed movie before his death in November 2013. Apart from that it is a solid action movie that is quite entertaining but doesn't really come up with any new ideas. It could be considered as something of a mix between Fast and Furious and any ordinary action movie.

The movie, directed by Camille Delamarre and written by Luc Besson, follows Walker's character undercover cop Damien Collier through a secluded and dangerous Detroit neighborhood in search of a stolen bomb. He therefore teams up with an ex-con (David Belle) who knows the neighborhood better than he does. If this plot sounds familiar to some of you the reason might be that it's a reboot of the 2004 movie District 13. The plot and characters/character names are not the only things that are almost completely identical to the original. Luc Besson already provided the script for the original and Belle even reprises his role from the 2004 movie, now called Lino instead of Leïto.

Altogether Brick Mansions is a movie that Paul Walker fans will want to see. If you're looking for some 90 minutes of entertainment and are okay with a standard action movie this is the right film for you. If you rather prefer something more in depth you may rather watch something different.

German release: June 5, 2014
